IHS Speakers Biography


Tony Potter

Vice President

IHS Chemical

Tony Potter is based in Singapore, where he is Vice President, Chemical Insight, at IHS, a leading global provider of information and insight and consulting services to the global chemical, petrochemical and refining industries.

Tony has 30 years’ experience in the chemical industry. He joined Chemical Market Associates, Inc. (CMAI), now part of IHS Chemical, in March 2006 as Director of Olefins – Europe, Middle East & Africa. In 2009, Tony moved to Dubai as Managing Director, Middle East & India, IHS Chemical Consulting, where he led numerous studies, serving many of the major oil and chemical companies in the Middle East. These have ranged from project-feasibility through acting as market and technical consultant to lenders; market and competitive analysis; cost and profitability analysis; benchmarking, organizational design and strategy development. Tony transferred to his current role as Vice President Asia Pacific, IHS Chemical, at the beginning of 2013.

Prior to joining CMAI, Tony ran his own independent consulting practice, Competecon, specializing in competitive and economic analysis of the oil, petrochemical and polymer industries. He served clients throughout Europe, the Americas, Middle East and Asia. Key elements of his business included business interruption loss analysis for the insurance industry and benchmarking of the global aromatics industry.

Tony began his career as a graduate recruit with Exxon Chemical in 1983 in the UK. He held a number of plant supervision, project management and planning management positions before transferring to Exxon's European head office in Brussels, where he held the positions of investment planning manager for the Basic Chemicals business group and industry analysis manager.

Utpal Sheth

Senior Director - Polymer

IHS Chemical

Utpal Sheth serves as a Senior Director - Polymers at IHS Chemical, Singapore and has the responsibility for the Asian Polymers Business. He is the Service Leader for the Global Plastics and Polymers Market Report, Asia, Middle East and Indian service.  Utpal joined CMAI (now IHS Chemical) as Director of Polyolefin / PVC for the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent at our Dubai office in October 2007.  Utpal brings with him extensive Sales, Marketing and Technical Services experience and knowledge of Polyolefins (PE / PP) and PVC industry of over 16 years before joining CMAI.  Recently in July 2014, he has relocated to Singapore to lead the Polymers Business in Asia - Middle East.  As a part of his current assignment, apart from leading the Weekly Polymers' Service, he contributes to various market advisory publications as well as supports various consulting activities.  

As the subject matter expert on Polymers in IHS, he supports strategic business planning, competitive and market analysis as well as technical services pertaining Polymers.
Utpal is an Engineering Graduate with specialization in Plastics and Master of Business Administration with specialization in Marketing.


Ashish Pujari
Senior Director, Aromatics & Fibers

Ashish Pujari serves as a Senior Director at IHS Chemical, Singapore, and has the responsibility for the Asian Aromatics business and Global Fibers and Feedstock business.He is the Service Leader for three subscription services covering the Global Polyester, Nylon and the Asian Aromatics value chain. Apart from regular market and outlook updates, Ashish also leads initiatives in creating and updating the long-term outlook for the polyester value chain. He has also been involved in numerous consulting studies in the past four years. Prior to joining Chemical Market Associates, Inc. (CMAI) in 2009, Ashish gained 15 years of experience with Reliance Industries Limited in India. He started his career as a project and operations engineer and was involved in the startup and commissioning of the Hazira complex on the west coast of India. He shifted to the commercial role in mid-1998 and worked as a business analyst for Reliance’s executive management before shifting to a sales and marketing role, handling Fibers Intermediates.
